Tallahatchie RiverbankSponsored by Lazy Magnolia, Clark Beverage Group, Tallahatchie Gourmet and Sugaree’s Bakery. Live music will be performed by the All Night Long Blues Band from Clarksdale. Ticket holders will be able to sample 7 High Gravity Beers and 5 Craft/Imports. The featured beers are Beck’s Oktoberfest, Franziskaner, Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra, Sierra Nevada Ovila Dubbel, Spaten Optimator, Abita SOS, Abita Vanilla Double Dog, Crispen Brut Cider, Anchor Liberty Ale, Southern Pecan, Indian Summer and Timber Beast.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 at Tallahatchie Gourmet, 662-534-3250 or Pizza Pit, 662-538-5800. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate for $25. The ticket price will cover the commemorative Lazy Magnolia Beer glass, the beer sampling and food by Tallahatchie Gourmet and Sugaree’s Bakery. All volunteers and ticket holders must be at least 21.
All proceeds will be donated to the Tanglefoot Trailhead Plaza fund. These funds will go toward the creation of a small public park at the northern end of the Tanglefoot Trail on Bankhead Street in the middle of downtown New Albany. Tanglefoot Trail will convert 42 miles of former railway to a path for biking and hiking between New Albany and Houston, MS. Federal grants and other funds that have been secured for the trail development do not include the trailhead plazas. Development of the Tanglefoot Trail has been in progress for several years, with opening expected in the spring of 2013.

OXFORD — Mississippi’s new law that raised the legal alcohol content of beer is giving rise to a new specialty store, enabling an Oxford resident to make a living in his hometown.

Joey Vaughan decided to open the store after the legal alcohol content for beer rose July 1, allowing merchants to sell specialty brews previously unavailable in Mississippi.
