When the new ABW cap increase was signed into law, Sierra Nevada set aside some of their Torpedo IPA and Big Foot Barleywine to be shipped to Mississippi. At that time, however, they did not have enough quantity of their higher gravity seasonals to ship to the state. Their quantities were set well before the law was signed, and the beer was already allocated.
I contacted Sierra Nevada to see if their upcoming Fall releases will be headed for Mississippi.
In the hopper, pun intended, for MS are the Northern Hemisphere Harvest and Celebration Ale. The Imperial Stout checks in at 10.8% ABV so a bit too high on that and I do not have an answer yet on the Estate as the yields are dependent upon the Harvest of the Hops and Barley at the brewery so…we’ll see…
Beer Release Schedule:

Starkville Piggly Wiggly has added the following higher gravity beers:
- Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA
- Diamond Bear Two Term Double IPA
- Abita Jockamo IPA

According to Sierra Nevada’s 2012 Beer Release Calendar Imperial Stout and Estate Ale should be available in September. Hopefully, Mississippi will get some of these beers. We will, more than likely, miss out on Hoptimum, Brux, and the Beer Camp Variety Box.
Our specialty, one off runs are projected and allocated far in advance. In the case of each of these the brewing was either completed or set well before the law was voted on in MS.
If by chance any should come available I will do what I can. In the future, MS will be included in specialty allocations provided the ABV is no greater than 10%.

Hops & Habanas is expecting Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale and Torpedo Extra IPA by the weekend according to their email blast.

I recently posted about Sierra Nevada’s specialty products BRUX and Beer Camp Variety Box. Unfortunately these products will not be available in Mississippi.

I hate to hear that we won’t be getting these most recent releases, but it is great to hear we will be getting future special releases.

(Chico, CA) — Sierra Nevada Brewing Company got label approval this week for the four beers it will be putting in the 2012 Beer Camp Variety Pack.
Sierra Nevada debuted the pack last May and it will return later this year with a new lineup of beers. Product Development Manager, Bill Manley, told BeerPulse back in March that the pack was tentatively slated for August release.
Variety packs are among the hot packages in craft beer. Variety packs ranked fourth behind seasonals, IPAs and Pale Ales in terms of sales in supermarkets as of the end of 2011, according to Symphony IRI Group data.
Here are the four beers that will be featured this year:
Sierra Nevada Oatmeal Stout (Beer Camp #45) — This big oatmeal stout is midnight black in color-with a big roasty, mocha-like aroma. It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish. Perfect as an after-dinner treat.
Sierra Nevada Imperial Red Ale (Beer Camp #65) — This Imperial Red Ale takes the intense hop profile found in a traditional double IPA and turns up the malt. It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach and melon — balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.
Sierra Nevada Imperial Pilsner (Beer Camp #43) — Packing a big hop-forward punch and bright crisp finish, this golden pilsner features a hearty dose of “sticky,” resinous Crystal and Pacifica dry hops, which balance the light-bodied yet complex malt backbone.
Sierra Nevada Floral IPA (Beer Camp #53) — This unique take on the traditional IPA style pairs the bold and intense aromas of whole-cone hop “flowers” with aromatic natural rose hips and petals for complex aromas and unexpected flavors.

All previous Beer Camp variety box releases have contained at least one beer over our old ABW cap. With the cap increase there is a possibility of getting this in Mississippi. No word yet if we will see this in August.

(Santa Rosa, CA) — Here is the latest from the Russian River Brewing blog.

I’m sure many of you have heard about our collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company! This 2 year, 2 brewery, 2 family project is about to hit the streets and hopefully make it to a bottle shop near you! Set for National Release in July (I bet you thought you would never hear me say something like that!), BRUX was brewed in Chico (at Sierra Nevada) and will go through their distribution channels, which will, of course, greatly increase your chances of getting a couple of bottles.
BRUX is a “domesticated wild ale”, or an ale fermented with Belgian yeast, finished by a secondary bottle fermentation with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. It’s a little more than 8% alcohol, very dry, earthy, spicy, and tasty. But wait, there’s more! About 99% of BRUX was bottled in 750 ml bottles, so there will be almost none available on draft. Almost none, meaning that our brewpubs, Russian River and Sierra Nevada, will have it available on draft in July!
The Russian River BRUX draft release is set for July 5th at 5pm at our pub in Downtown Santa Rosa. We will have no bottles or growlers available to go at our brewery due to state liquor laws. Then we move to Chico for Sierra Nevada’s release on July 9th where they will have plenty of bottles for sale.

This beer will be distributed through Sierra Nevada’s distribution channels. This distribution coupled with our new ABW cap increase, could make buying this in Mississippi a reality. I have not heard yet whether or not we will get this, but please ask your distributor reps to request this from Sierra.
Update (6/24/12 10:17 PM):
At this time, this product will not be coming to the Jackson Metro.
