After running into a setback in their plans to open a brewery in Hattiesburg (See: Gordon Creek Brewery facing legal roadblock.), Gordon Creek Brewery was approved today by the City of Hattiesburg to brew in a location on East Pine Street.  Months of hard work have paid off, and now the brewery will begin the process of obtaining state and federal licenses.  If all goes well, Gordon Creek could see themselves in production by late October.

The Hattiesburg Planning Commission approved us to brew at a building on E. Pine Street. Special thanks to Donovan Scruggs, Patty Brantley, Kim Bradley, Dave Ware, Sparky Walker, Michael Anderson and a special thanks to Betsy Rowell who spoke in support of our project at the meeting. We’d also like to thank our family and friends who have helped and encouraged us to continue to move forward.

Lucky Town Brewing recently signed with Back Forty Beer Company to begin production of their beers.

Lucky Town will begin brewing through a contract brewer this means that an established brewery will brew and package our beer initially and Lucky Town will be responsible for beer recipes, distribution, sales and marketing. We chose to go with contract brewing for several reasons. 1) Brewing can be expedited as there is no need to wait on our own facility to be designed, built, and approved. 2) Lucky Towns beers can be tested in the market while we are working on our production facility. 3) Having our beer in the market will allow us to range sales and accurately size our production equipment to meet demand.

Lucky Town has selected Back Forty Beer Company to contract brew our beer. Back Forty is located in Gadsden, Alabama and they are dedicated to brewing high quality craft beer. Our purchased fermenter has already been installed at Back Fortys brewery and it will be dedicated to fermenting all of our initial batches of beer. As distribution grows, we will begin adding additional tanks at Back Fortys facility to accommodate the demand which will allow Lucky Town to brew more styles simultaneously. Once Lucky Towns brewery is built, all of our fermenters will then be moved from Back Fortys facility into our very own facility here in Mississippi.

Lucky Town Brewing Company previously signed with Capital City Beverage to distribute their beers.  Now, FEB Distributing and Stokes Distributing are also on board.

Lucky Town is proud to announce that we have signed distribution agreements with three in-state distributors: Capital City Beverages, F.E.B. Distributing, and Stokes Distributing. These three distributors will cover from the Jackson Area all the way to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have gotten to know them all very well over the past year and we feel confident that these partnerships will allow for our customers to find our beers in these regions on a consistent basis. Dont worry North Mississippi we didnt forget about you. We will be expanding distribution statewide in early 2013. Cheers!

Yazoo considering switch to pry-off bottles.

On September 4, 2012, in Brewery News, by Wesley Clark

yazoo250

Well, after several years of asking our bottle supplier to give us the option to switch to pry-off bottles instead of the twist-off ones we are currently using, he has come through.  So I’m putting it out there to all of you – what’s your preference?

Yazoo has a poll on their Blog. Feel free to voice you opinion and let them know which you would prefer, twist-off or pry-off caps.

Lazy Magnolia launches First Friday

On September 4, 2012, in Events, by Wesley Clark

KILN, Miss. Beer samples. Brewery tours. Live music. Lip-smacking barbecue.

All four will be available Friday, Sept. 7, when the Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company launches its First Friday charitable event.

Woof woof. Proceeds from the event benefit the Hancock County Animal Shelter.
The community has helped support us over the years, and we want to return the favor, said Lazy Magnolia owner and brew master Leslie Henderson.

First Fridays will be held on the first Friday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. starting in September. A new Lazy Magnolia pint glass design and a new Lazy Magnolia beer will both be unveiled at First Fridays.

In September, we will release our new Mississippi Nectar, said Henderson. Its a delicious oak-aged wine made with 100 percent Mississippi honey.
The Sept. 7 event features music by Rosco Bandana and food from Daddys BBQ. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.

A $10 fee is required to attend the charitable tour and tasting event, which includes the new pint glass and beer samples. No reservation is needed.

The Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company was established in 2005 as Mississippis first and only post-prohibition brewery. Located adjacent to the Stennis International Airport in Kiln, Miss., the family-owned business brewed approximately 13,500 barrels of beer in 2011.
